This homemade cookie recipe includes all the seasonal staples that you may already have on hand by Christmastime. I want you to enjoy these melt-in-your-mouth buttery cookies right in the comfort of your own home.

Ingredients

For the cookies:

  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ¾ . c salted butter, room temperature
  • ½ c. granulated sugar
  • ½ c. light-brown sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks, room temperature
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp. rum flavor
  • ½ c. eggnog

For the frosting:

  • ½ c.salt butter, softened at room temperature
  • 5 Tbsp. eggnog
  • ½ tsp. rum flavor
  • 3 c. confectioners powdered sugar
 

Instructions

To make the cookies:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

  3. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream together butter and sugars, until pale and fluffy.

  4. Mix in egg yolk, vanilla extract, rum flavor, and eggnog.

  5. Slowly add dry ingredients and mix until combined.

  6. Scoop dough out using a cookie scoop and drop onto baking, spacing cookies 2-inches apart.

  7. Bake for 12 minutes, the outer edges of the cookies should be set. Remove from oven, and allow to cool for 2-3 minutes before transferring to a wire cooling rack.

To make the frosting:

  1. Whip butter in a mixing bowl, using a stand or hand-held electric mixer.

  2. Add 2 Tbsp of eggnog, the rum flavor, and powdered sugar; mix until combined.

  3. Add 1 Tbsp of eggnog at a time until frosting reaches the desired consistency.

  4. Frost cookies once they have completely cooled.

  5. Sprinkle tops with nutmeg and/or cinnamon.
